About this work
This Japanese woodblock print shows a checkpoint scene with kneeling travelers and attendants in blue and purple robes beside a wooden platform draped in white curtains with blue patterns. Guards carry black lacquered boxes on poles in the foreground, while a procession moves past a shrine on the left.
