About this work
A woodblock print by Utagawa Hiroshige, titled Totsuka, dated ca. 1841-1842. A rider in a wide straw hat sits on a brown horse on a road winding between green hills, while attendants carry a palanquin and walk beside a figure in blue. Tall, angular pine trees frame the upper left and right, and the sky is pale above distant blue ridges.
