About this work
This etching shows a seated nude woman in profile, her head resting on her raised arm and one knee drawn up, rendered in sparse, continuous contour lines on a pale sheet. The composition is minimal, with only faint hatching in the background suggesting space around the figure. The work is signed Henri Matisse in pencil and numbered 24 in the lower margin, dated 1929.
