About this work

A hand-coloured engraving shows a Swiss Guard soldier in profile, wearing a red coat with blue cuffs and white trim, blue breeches, and a black tricorn hat, with a musket resting on his shoulder and a sabre at his side. A stone fortification and leafy trees frame the figure against a pale sky, and a French caption below describes the regiment's uniform and composition. The work is attributed to Charles Dominique Joseph Eisen and dated 1756.
