About this work
A Japanese woodblock print shows a kabuki actor seated on the ground in a plaid kimono and red patterned robe, holding an open fan inscribed with calligraphy. A pine branch and stone steps frame the figure, and a name cartouche appears at the upper left. The print is attributed to Toyokuni Utagawa and dated 1818.
