About this work
This diptych print shows two kabuki actors in theatrical costume on a veranda beneath blossoming cherry trees, with a garden and stone lantern visible behind them. The left figure in a blue kimono holds up a sandal, while the right figure in black leans against a tree trunk, identified by red cartouches. The work is attributed to Utagawa Kunisada (Toyokuni III) and dated ca. 1840.
