About this work

This chromolithographic print shows a Civil War era outdoor divine service led by Rev. P. P. Cooney, C.S.C. with seated Union soldiers arranged around a tent altar beneath an American flag. Smaller vignettes depict Holy Communion, sisters tending patients in a field hospital, and a battle scene, all framed by pine boughs. The print was produced by the American Oleograph Co. in 1877 and is catalogued under the Atlanta Campaign and Army of the Cumberland.
