About this work
A woodblock print shows a kabuki actor with exaggerated facial expression, wide staring eyes, and a scowling mouth, wearing a gold ornamental headpiece and a patterned robe. The upper corners carry printed cartouches with names and series text, and the work is attributed to Utagawa Kunisada (Toyokuni III) and dated 1863.
