About this work
This Japanese woodblock print shows two costumed figures in a stage-like interior, a woman in an iris-patterned robe in the foreground beside a seated man in a patterned blue garment. A striped-robed attendant peers from the right, and a blossoming tree and rocky backdrop frame the scene. The work is a print by Utagawa Kunisada (Toyokuni III), dated 1820-1830.
