About this work
A rainy scene shows a procession of figures in traditional Japanese dress, including a mounted rider and attendants carrying large gold-and-black umbrellas along a path lined with wooden posts and pine branches. Diagonal rain lines fill the sky, and a wooden torii-like gate stands at the left edge. This colour woodblock print is by Katsushika Hokusai, dated c. 1801-1804, and is titled Aridōshi Shrine.
