About this work

A Japanese woodblock print shows two women in ornate kimono walking along a path through tall irises, one holding a fan-shaped parasol and the other gesturing toward the blossoms. A pine tree, a thatched pavilion on a hillside, and a figure in dark clothing at the right complete the scene. The work is titled Noblewomen of the Tokugawa Period from the series Thirty-six Beauties, by Toshikata Mizuno, dated 1891 to 1893.
