About this work
A still life painting shows a lidded teapot with a curved spout and handle, set in front of two white ceramic cups and a stacked cup on a footed base, each decorated with blue horizontal bands. The muted pale tones rest on a warm yellow-ochre ground, with a signature and red seal in the lower right. This work is by Shibata Zeshin, dated 1847, and is held by the Portland Art Museum.
