About this work
This Japanese print from The Kōrin Picture Book, plate 03, by Hōchū Nakamura, dated to the 1800s, shows a large tree trunk with dark green foliage overhead. Two elderly women sit on the ground in conversation, one in a pale green robe and the other in a blue kimono patterned with red maple leaves, while small figures peek from behind the trunk and an orange woven basket rests nearby.
