About this work
A hand-colored political cartoon titled "Shall women vote" by Samuel Ehrhart, dated 1909. A woman seated by a stove with an infant and children is encircled by a chain, while a stout politician in a bowler hat, labeled CRAFT and POLITICS, holds back a line of voters outside a "Polls Open 6 A.M. Close 6 P.M." sign, and men in the foreground pass money. Smaller vignettes show factory labor, washing, and a scuffle in the corner.
