About this work
A lavishly decorated Christmas tree glows with candles and ornaments while a crowd of caricatured figures gathers around it, reaching for toys and gifts. A child dressed in red and white with a crown and scepter stands on a stepladder at the top, and toys such as a sailboat, a train and a rocking horse fill the floor. This 1902 print by Samuel Ehrhart, titled Puck's Christmas tree, is a satirical Christmas scene in a comic illustration style.
