About this work
A richly colored lithograph by Samuel Ehrhart, dated 1903, shows a crowded fashionable interior with elegant society women in gowns, men in evening dress, a roulette table, card players, and a ballerina. Animals including a monkey in a jacket, a poodle, and a donkey cart populate the scene, with a central woman holding a scroll inscribed with a quotation about society and attraction.
