About this work
A richly colored chromolithographic political caricature by Bernhard Gillam, dated 1883, shows a crowd of exaggerated figures in top hats and frock coats gathered on a garden walk. Many carry bags and boxes with written labels such as "Clean Gloves," "Free Trade," and "Fancy Goods," while a woman in a striped skirt and star-spangled bodice stands at left.
