About this work
A chromolithographic political cartoon by Bernhard Gillam, dated 1884, shows a crowded boathouse of caricatured men holding medicine bottles and labeled cures while a muscular oarsman in a striped shirt pushes a racing shell off the dock. Spectators line the far bank under banners reading Grand Stand, and a single rower in a rival boat is marked Reform.
