About this work
A colored lithographic caricature shows a stout, dignified figure in a dark cape and feathered hat facing a ragged, clamoring crowd of men holding empty tin cups marked with labels such as hopes and job seekers. Signs reading White House, No Tramps Admitted and U.S. Treasury appear among the buildings, and a newspaper reading Logan Speech at Boston, July 1885 is tucked under the leader's arm. Bernhard Gillam created this print, dated 1885.
