About this work
A colored political cartoon shows a large, ragged figure at a doorway marked Congress, holding a club labeled Rep. Leadership and leading a dog labeled Keifer, while elderly figures in bonnets and aprons, some labeled with names, are harassed in a kitchen cluttered with dishes and a sign reading Appropriation Pantry. Bernhard Gillam created this print in 1882, and it is titled The great congressional tramp bullying the old women of the national household.
