About this work
A woodblock print shows the warrior monk Benkei standing at the prow of a wooden boat amid towering dark waves, with a pale full moon glowing behind cloud. The ship's railing and the turbulent sea dominate the composition, and the figure wears a red robe over yellow garments with a sword at his waist. The work is by Tsukioka Yoshitoshi, dated 1885-1892.
