About this work

A woodblock print shows a man in a green patterned kimono and white hakama clutching his garments as two snarling brown wolves approach through tall grass beneath a pale full moon and pink clouds. The composition, with its dark teal night sky and cartouche with calligraphic text, is characteristic of Japanese woodblock prints. The work is attributed to Tsukioka Yoshitoshi and dated 1885-1892.
