About this work

This hand-colored print shows three armored knights standing side by side with their hands clasped in prayer, wearing chain mail, helmets, tunics, and belts with swords. The inscription identifies them as the Counts of Neuchâtel, Switzerland, from the mid-fourteenth century, and names Louis (1342-73) above the central figure. The sheet is attributed to Raphaël Jacquemin and dated 1869, drawn from the tomb in the collegiate church of the town.
