About this work
A standing female figure is shown in a flat, mosaic-inspired style, wearing a golden-yellow tunic decorated with blue jeweled bands, red and blue roundels, and a white veil draped over the arm. The hand-colored drawing bears the printed caption identifying the figure as an Italo-Roman princess of the late eighth century, after a mosaic in the Basilica of St. Cecilia in the Roman catacombs. The work is credited to Raphaël Jacquemin and dated 1869.
