About this work

Two mounted knights face each other in a tournament pose, raising swords, with richly patterned heraldic caparisons on their horses and gilded crests on their helmets. The painted drawing is rendered in watercolor and ink, with the caption beneath naming the Duke of Brittany and the Duke of Bourbon jousting, after the Livre des Tournois painted by King René.
