About this work
Two standing military officers in ornate early nineteenth-century French uniforms are shown in profile against a pale background. The figure on the left wears a plumed helmet, green coat with gold braid, and white breeches, while the figure on the right wears a crested helmet, blue sleeves, and a red sash. Printed captions identify them as Baraguay-d'Hillier, colonel general des dragons, and Couvion St. Cyr, colonel general des cuirassiers, with the note that the costumes were worn at Napoleon's coronation of December 1804. The work is attributed to Raphaël Jacquemin and dated 1869.
