About this work

This pen-and-ink drawing on tan paper presents an allegorical scene with a tall robed figure, a peacock with a long tail, and a crowd of figures in a dense, rhythmically patterned garden. Swirling contour lines and ornamental textures fill the landscape and rock forms in the background. The work is attributed to Karel de Nerée tot Babberich and dated between 1890 and 1909.
