About this work
This Japanese woodblock print shows a night seascape under a pale full moon, with a sailboat drifting on rippling water beside a rocky shore. A red-trimmed paper lantern and a red and grey awning frame the view in the foreground, with reed-like stalks crossing the scene. The work is Kobayashi Kiyochika's print The Moon At Shinagawa, dated 1884, held by the Rijksmuseum.
