About this work
This print by Asai Chū, titled Mokugo zuanshū Pl.17, shows two figures framed within large circular roundels on a pale ground. On the left a seated figure in a black garment and patterned yellow-ochre robe holds a thin pole, while on the right a fierce bearded figure in grey clothing with a green sash grips a staff. The work is a Japanese print with flat color areas and bold outlines.
