About this work
A Japanese-style advertising poster for Nippon Yusen Kaisha, the Japan Mail Steamship Company, shows a black-hulled steamer with smoking funnels sailing before a large orange sun. Stylized pine branches, yellow chrysanthemums and a striped panel with a world map frame the scene, and a printed calendar and office listings appear along the bottom. The work is a 1918 poster by Sugiyama Sueo.
