About this work
A poster by Okano Sakae, dated early 1920s, shows a muscular laborer in a blue vest and dark trousers kneeling beside a brick wall, placing a brick with a trowel in hand. A white dove flies above him against a pale blue sky, while factory smoke stacks and a distant city skyline rise behind. Red Japanese text in the lower panel accompanies the image, along with a black vertical label.
