About this work

A Japanese woodblock triptych showing a uniformed officer in a black coat and kepi leading troops forward with a raised sword across a river crossing. Opposing soldiers in light uniforms fire from the reeds on the left as smoke and red tracer lines fill the scene under a crescent moon. The work is by Toshikata Mizuno, dated 1894, and its title refers to the bravery of Captain Matsuzaki during the battle at Anseong Crossing.
