About this work
This Japanese woodblock print shows a figure in a dark brown robe and teal garment bending forward while carrying a long pole across a sandy shore. Thatched-roof houses, a windswept pine, and distant hills frame a calm sea beneath a pale sky. The work is titled "Yui" and is attributed to Katsushika Hokusai, dated 1804.
