A black-and-white engraved print shows a standing man in a military uniform with a laurel wreath, resting one hand on a stone tomb slab amid dense, shadowy trees and an open grave in the foreground. A glowing halo of light surrounds his head, and an inscribed French quotation appears below the image. The print is dated 1840 and was made by Jean-Pierre-Marie Jazet after a work by Horace Vernet.
