About this work
This etching shows a leafy tree in the foreground framing a Gothic cathedral with a tall spire and a rose window, with a towered facade rising at right. The rendering uses simple, flowing contour lines with minimal shading. Henri Matisse created this print, titled La Cité - Notre-Dame, in 1937.
