About this work
A hand-colored bird's-eye plan of the walled city of Middelburg shows its star-shaped bastions, surrounding moat, and dense grid of streets and buildings. Tree-lined fields and a large water basin fill the surrounding land, while a coat of arms and a cartouche bearing the city name frame the sheet.
