About this work

This 1709 print, published under the name Anna Beek, shows a detailed plan of the fortified city and citadel of Tournai. The walled town, its numbered bastions and moats, and the citadel with its star-shaped ramparts are set among rivers, fields and roads, with siege approaches marked across the surrounding countryside. A decorative cartouche bearing a lion's head and a key to the numbered features appears in the lower left.
