About this work
A hand-colored copper engraving presents a bird's-eye plan of Hamburg enclosed by star-shaped fortifications, with the Alster river and harbor shipping at its edges. Below, a panoramic view shows the city skyline bristling with church spires and sailing vessels along the waterfront, framed by the coats of arms of the Holy Roman Empire and Hamburg. The print is dated 1709 and attributed to Anna Beek.
