About this work
This hand-coloured engraving depicts a panoramic view of a battlefield with cavalry, infantry and billowing smoke across a broad landscape, with a river winding through the middle distance. A mounted commander in a white horse leads a group of officers in the foreground, and an inscription in Latin and French identifies the Battle of Höchstädt, dated 1704 on the plate.
