About this work
A colored lithograph from the 1872 issue of L'Eclipse titled Guet-Apens, by André Gill, shows five large insects with human-like features resting on a web laid over a map of France, with Paris marked in the center. Some of the insects wear a fleur-de-lis, a crown, or a top hat, while the pale pink, blue, and black wash fills the map and background. The surrounding newspaper page carries the masthead and publication details.
