About this work
A lithograph shows a large domed hall filled with a crowd of men and women in mid-nineteenth-century dress, gathered before a raised stage with a central table and a pipe organ on the back wall. Tall columns with ornate capitals frame the space beneath a coffered ceiling and a hanging chandelier. This print, titled Distribution of the American Art Union prizes, was produced by Sarony, Major & Knapp in 1848.
