About this work
A hand-colored lithograph titled The polka shows two dancers in theatrical costume, a man in a red fur-trimmed jacket with one arm raised and a woman in a full white tutu with star motifs and a blue bodice. An ornate lamp stand and a patterned purple curtain frame the scene. The print was issued by Sarony, Major & Knapp Lith. and carries a New York publisher's imprint.
