About this work
A sepia-toned print titled Signing the Declaration of Independence, produced by Knapp & Co. in 1912, shows a crowded wood-paneled chamber with men in eighteenth-century dress gathered around a desk where a figure seated in the foreground appears to write. Standing and seated figures in powdered wigs and dark coats fill the room, with tall windows opening onto trees at the right. A small bell emblem appears at the lower left of the sheet.
