About this work
An engraved portrait shows a bald, bearded man in a dark robe with a patterned sash, set within an elaborate architectural frame topped by winged figures and a skull. The printed inscription below the portrait identifies the sitter as Michel de L'Hospital, chancellor of France. The print is attributed to Michiel Le Blon and dates from 1559 to 1585.
