About this work
This Japanese woodblock print shows a woman in profile with an elaborate hairstyle decorated with gold and tortoiseshell ornaments and a paper object held near her chin. Her striped and patterned kimono is rendered in green, black, red and blue, and an inset panel above shows a parasol and a paper lantern with inscriptions.
