About this work
A woman in a patterned blue kimono and white head wrap sits at a wooden desk painting or decorating a lacquered box while a child in a red jacket holds another box. Behind them a river scene shows a sailing boat, small rowing boats, pine trees, and a distant snow-capped mountain under a pale sky. This Japanese woodblock print by Utagawa Kunisada (Toyokuni III) is dated 1854.
