About this work

A horse stands harnessed to a wooden cart beside a wall of vertical bamboo screens, with a gap revealing a blue river and a row of low buildings across the water. A figure in a straw hat rests on the cart, and the scene is rendered in green, yellow and blue tones. Kawase Hasui made this woodblock print in 1919, titled Komagata kashi (River bank, Komagata).
