About this work
A woodblock print shows the two-story sanmon gate of Nanzen-ji Temple in Kyoto, its tiled roofs and carved wooden balcony rising above a courtyard. Orange and green maple leaves frame the gate, and rain puddles on the stone ground reflect the building and surrounding trees. This 1952 print by Kawase Hasui is titled Jigure no ato (Kyoto Nanzen-ji).
