About this work

This woodblock print, titled Ayame (Iris) and attributed to Kawase Hasui, dated 1929, shows a dense field of irises in white, navy, purple, maroon and pink-edged blooms rising among tall green blade-like leaves beneath a pale blue sky. The flowers are rendered with fine linear detail and flat areas of color, and a red seal and inscriptions appear in the lower margin.
