About this work
A decorative watercolor and ink drawing of Dutch coastal life, with an oval central scene of figures on a shore beside a moored sailboat. Smaller vignettes around the border show costumed townspeople, interior scenes and skaters on a frozen waterway, set within a rococo-style cartouche. The inscription reads Souvenirs des Pays Bas and is dated 1854 by Herman Frederik Carel Ten Kate.
